Goodman-LeGrand House
historic place
The Goodman-LeGrand House, a historic place in Tyler, Smith County, Texas, was built in 1859. Originally named 'Bonnie Castle,' it was constructed by Samuel Gallatin Smith. Dr. S.A. Goodman acquired the property in 1866. His son, Major W.J. Goodman, a Confederate surgeon, later expanded the residence. Mrs. Sallie Goodman LeGrand, Major Goodman's last heir, remodeled the house in the 1920s. She willed it to the City of Tyler in 1939. Since 1960, the Smith County Historical Society Museum has been housed here. The Junior League of Tyler restored the house in 1964. A historical marker, erected in 1964, details this history. The Goodman-LeGrand House preserves a part of Tyler's past.
