Jenkins-Harvey Super Service Station and Garage, Tyler, Texas
historic place
The Jenkins-Harvey Super Service Station and Garage, located at 124 South College Avenue in Tyler, Texas, is a historic place. Built in 1929, this landmark structure was designed by Tyler architect James P. Baugh. It features a distinctive Art Deco architectural style, including stylized foliate designs at the cornice level. The station was constructed during one of Tyler's most prosperous eras, responding to a boom economy and increasing demand for services between 1920 and 1960. It is recognized as the city's only known Art Deco auto service and parking garage. The garage even included a fireman's pole, used by attendants to quickly descend from upstairs. In 2002, the Jenkins-Harvey Super Service Station and Garage was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Today, the building has been adapted for loft-style residential use. This site reflects Tyler's development and the evolution of automobile culture.
