Tyler Hydraulic-Fill Dam
historic place
In Smith County, Texas, the Tyler Hydraulic-Fill Dam was constructed in 1894 to impound water for the Tyler Water Works. Builders used a hydraulic-fill method, sluicing sand and clay to form the embankment. The dam is approximately 575 feet long and 32 feet high. It supplied Tyler's domestic water and fire protection until around 1950, when Lake Tyler became operational. The Tyler Hydraulic-Fill Dam was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The specific text of a historical marker for this site is not available.
