Forsgard House, Waco
historic place
The Forsgard House in Waco, McLennan County, is a significant historic place. Samuel Johan Forsgard journeyed to Texas from Sweden in 1855. Two years later, he married Mary C. Johnson and they settled in Waco. Samuel and his son, Edward Ferdinant Forsgard, known as "Fuzzy," designed this home. Swedish carpenters completed its construction in 1908. Edward and his wife, Anna Marie Weaver, raised their family here. Both Samuel and Edward were notable figures, serving as Special Texas Rangers. Edward also achieved the 1908 world title in trapshooting. Anna, also called Annie or "Queenie," was recognized for her generosity, providing food and drink to many. The property was extensive, including Samuel's smaller house, a hull house for cotton farm waste, and two barns. The main house itself is a modified ell, designed in the Queen Anne style with Classical columns and decorative shingling. Its porch underwent a modification in 1930. A historical marker for the Forsgard House was erected in 2002. This site remains an important architectural landmark in Waco's history.
