Mann, John Wesley, House

historic place

The John Wesley Mann House, located in Waco, McLennan County, Texas, is a significant historic place. This Italianate-style residence was built for industrialist John Wesley Mann, with construction beginning in 1873 and completed in 1874. Mann, a prominent businessman and banker, had moved to Waco in 1858. The house was constructed using bricks from Mann's own kiln. Extensive additions, including an entertainment wing with a ballroom, were made between 1878 and 1885, maintaining the original architectural style. The John Wesley Mann House was designated a Recorded Texas Historic Landmark in 1962. It was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 19, 1972. A historical marker on the site provides context. This house is significant for its distinctive Italianate architecture, uncommon in 19th-century Texas, and for its association with John Wesley Mann, a key figure in Waco's development.
