The Hippodrome in Waco

historic place

The Hippodrome, a historic place in Waco, opened on February 7, 1914. It originally hosted live performances, vaudeville, and silent films. A 1928 fire led to a renovation, and the building was remodeled in a Spanish Colonial Revival style. It reopened in 1929 as the Waco Theatre. The Hippodrome was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. A historical marker, erected in 1981 by the Texas Historical Commission, notes its 1914 opening and later transformation. This site continues as an entertainment venue in Waco.
