Eanes Cemetery

historic place

You are at Eanes Cemetery in Westlake Hills, in Travis County, Texas. The cemetery is next to Eanes Elementary School. It was established in 1874. The purpose was to provide burial for travelers and residents of Travis County who did not have a family graveyard. The land was donated by William and Sophia Teague. They were settlers in the Eanes area. They also deeded part of their property for a church and school. Some burial sites are marked only with fieldstones. Others are marked with limestone or granite. The earliest legible tombstone is that of Mike M. Teague. It dates to 1895. In 1986, the Texas Historical Commission erected a historical marker here. That was during the Texas Sesquicentennial. The cemetery matters because it records how the Eanes community provided for burials, a church, and a school.
