ADVENTURESS
historic place
The schooner Adventuress, a historic place in Seattle, Washington, was launched in 1913 in East Boothbay, Maine. Designed by Bowdoin B. Crowninshield, she was built for an Arctic expedition. From 1915, Adventuress served three decades as a pilot boat for the San Francisco Bar Pilots. During World War II, she patrolled the West Coast as a United States Coast Guard vessel. Around 1952, Adventuress arrived in Seattle. In 1959, A.W. Morton began a youth sail training program. The Adventuress was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1989. Today, operated by Sound Experience, she actively provides environmental education on Puget Sound. Adventuress maintains a maritime legacy of service and youth development.
