Barksdale, Julian and Marajane, House
historic place
The Julian and Marajane Barksdale House is located in Seattle, Washington's Cedar Park neighborhood, in King County. Julian and Marajane Barksdale acquired this property in 1939. They commissioned architect Lionel H. Pries to design their expanded home, with construction drawings dated July 1949. The Barksdales moved into the house in 1950. This residence stands as an early example of Northwest regional modern architecture from the post-World War II era. Its design features an irregular perimeter and a zig-zag northeast wall, specifically oriented to capture views of Lake Washington. In 2011, the City of Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board designated the Barksdale House as a Seattle Landmark. It is also listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Barksdale House is historically significant for its distinctive architectural style and its association with its original owners and architect.
