Barnes Building, Seattle, Washington

historic place

The Barnes Building, located at 2320-2322 1st Avenue in Seattle's Belltown neighborhood, was designed by Elmer Fisher. Construction of this rusticated Victorian building began in late 1890. Initially known as the Odd Fellows' Block, it housed Seattle Lodge No. 7 of the International Order of Odd Fellows. The building later served other fraternal societies, including the Masons, and became known as Ingram Hall, a center for Seattle's dance community. The Barnes Building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1975 and became a Seattle Landmark in 1978. This structure is important for its architecture and its continuous role in Belltown's community life.
