Chelsea Family Hotel

historic place

The Chelsea Family Hotel, a historic place in Seattle's Queen Anne Hill, opened in 1907 at 620 Olympic Place. Architect Harlan Thomas designed this residential hotel to accommodate visiting families. Early advertisements promoted its scenic location facing Kinnear Park, just ten minutes from the business center. It offered a high-grade family home with large rooms, magnificent views, and an excellent neighborhood. Residents could enjoy a roof garden, a large lobby, and private telephones in all rooms. The building's design incorporated an eclectic mix of English, Renaissance, and Italianate architectural styles. Charles R. Collins, an owner, resided here with his family. The Chelsea Family Hotel operated as a hotel until 1917, when all its units became apartments. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on December 14, 1978. This site reflects Seattle's early 20th-century residential architecture and urban development.
