Chinese Baptist Church, Seattle
historic place
The Chinese Baptist Church in Seattle, Washington, is a historic place in King County. Its origins trace to 1892, as an outreach mission of Seattle First Baptist Church. Early congregants met in homes and leased halls. In 1902, they constructed a building at Maynard Avenue South and South Washington Street. The current historic structure at 925 South King Street was dedicated on October 12, 1922. Designed in a Late Gothic Revival style, it became a central point for the Chinese American community. The church provided prayer services and English lessons, offering vital community support. This building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The original congregation relocated in 1977. Today, the building houses the Chinese Southern Baptist Church. This site reflects a significant part of Seattle's Chinese immigrant history.
