Colonnade Hotel, Seattle
historic place
The Colonnade Hotel is a historic place in Seattle, King County. It was erected in 1900. Charles and Fred Stimson commissioned its construction, with Charles Bebb as the architect. The building first opened as the Colonnade Hotel, and over time was also known as the Standard Hotel, Gateway Hotel, and Gatewood Hotel. In 1912, a significant change occurred when its northern side, along Pine Street, was demolished and rebuilt seven feet to the south. This alteration was necessary for street widening and contributed to its present appearance. After decades as a hotel, the building was later adapted for low-income housing. More recently, it has returned to its original use as a hotel. The Colonnade Hotel was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2007 and became a City of Seattle Landmark in 2017. This structure reflects Seattle's early 20th-century urban development and its capacity for adaptation.
