First Methodist Protestant Church of Seattle
historic place
The First Methodist Protestant Church of Seattle, located in King County, Washington, holds a significant place in the city's history. The congregation was established in 1865 by Reverend Daniel Bagley. Initially, the congregation worshipped in downtown Seattle, where their church was known as the 'Little Brown Church'. The historic building that stands on Capitol Hill today was constructed in 1906 and dedicated in October 1907. It features a Gothic Revival exterior. In 1939, after a denominational merger, the congregation changed its name to Capitol Hill Methodist Church. The building was recognized for its historical importance and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993. The church congregation moved from this location in 1991. The structure was later renovated in 2004 and now functions as an office building. This site remains an example of early 20th-century Protestant church design in Seattle.
