Hotel Sorrento, Seattle
historic place
The Hotel Sorrento, a historic place in Seattle, King County, opened on May 30, 1909. Seattle clothier Samuel Rosenberg commissioned its construction. Architect Harlan Thomas designed the seven-story building in an Italian Renaissance style. The hotel was developed to accommodate a sloping site on First Hill and offer views towards Elliott Bay. It opened just before the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition in June 1909. The Hotel Sorrento was notable for featuring Seattle's first rooftop restaurant. It remains Seattle's oldest operating commercial hotel, continuing its original luxury tourist hotel purpose. The exact text of its historical marker is not available.
