Hyde, Samuel, House

historic place

The Samuel Hyde House is located in Seattle, Washington, in King County. This historic place was built between 1909 and 1910 for Samuel Hyde, a liquor magnate. The architectural firm Bebb and Mendel designed the two-story neoclassical building. The grounds were laid out by the Olmsted Brothers, known for their work on Seattle's parks and boulevards. The house features a portico with Corinthian columns and an adjacent brick carriage house. It was designated a Seattle landmark on December 28, 1981, and listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 12, 1982. From 1994 to 2018, the Samuel Hyde House served as the residence for Russia's Seattle consul general. The US government purchased the house in 1994. The property is historically significant for its neoclassical architecture and its association with prominent figures in Seattle's early 20th-century development.
