Liggett Building, Seattle

historic place

Welcome to the Liggett Building, a historic place in Seattle, King County. This ten-story office building, located at 1424 4th Avenue, was completed in 1927. It was originally built for the Louis K. Liggett Company, intended to house their national drug store chain and provide leasable office and retail space. The Liggett Building was designed by the architectural firm Lawton & Moldenhour in the Late Gothic Revival style. Its facade is clad entirely in locally manufactured terracotta, a notable characteristic of its construction. Following a renovation in 1933, the building also became known as the Fourth & Pike Building. The Liggett Building is recognized as an official Seattle City Landmark. It was also listed on the National Register of Historic Places on August 31, 2011. This structure provides a tangible link to Seattle's commercial development during the 1920s.
