Phillips House, Seattle, Washington

historic place

The Phillips House, a historic place in Seattle, Washington, was constructed in 1902. This unique double house was built for businessman William Bell Phillips, his wife Annie, and William's parents. Contractor John M. Hester built the house, designed by Williams & Clark, blending Colonial Revival and Classic Box styles. William Phillips was a prominent Seattle businessman. By 1925, the property became a multi-family rooming house. After falling into disrepair, Historic Seattle acquired it in 1992. A 1993 renovation created eleven units of affordable housing. The Phillips House was listed in the National Register of Historic Places that same year. Today, it continues to provide affordable rental units, demonstrating how historic buildings can serve community needs.
