Sigma Kappa Mu Chapter House
historic place
The Sigma Kappa Mu Chapter House, located in Seattle's King County, is a historic place. The original building was constructed in 1930. Designed by architect Joseph L. Skoog, the house features a French Tudor-inspired style. It consists of two brick buildings connected by enclosed walkways, forming a central courtyard. A notable architectural element is the rounded turret on the original building, which houses a circular staircase. This staircase design was later adopted by other Sigma Kappa chapters. The Mu Chapter of the Sigma Kappa sorority was founded at the University of Washington in 1910. The chapter house received City of Seattle Landmark status in 2006. In 2007, it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, becoming the first individual fraternity or sorority house to achieve this designation. This site is significant for its architectural style and its role in the history of Greek life at the University of Washington.
