historic place
The Skinner Building, a historic place in King County, Seattle, Washington, stands at 1326 5th Avenue. It was completed in 1926. Designed by architect Robert Reamer, the eight-story structure exhibits an Italian Renaissance Revival style. The building is faced with Wilkeson sandstone. It is named after industrialist David E. Skinner. The Skinner Building is notable for housing the historic 5th Avenue Theatre at its southern end. Near the main entrance, a plaque dedicates the Skinner Chimes in memory of philanthropist David E. "Ned" Skinner II. These electronic chimes can be heard daily at noon in downtown Seattle. In the 1930s, the building also housed radio stations KOMO and KJR. The Skinner Building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on November 28, 1978. Its architectural design and role in housing the 5th Avenue Theatre contribute to its historical significance.
