Tracy House, Seattle, Washington

historic place

The Tracy House is a historic place in King County, Washington, located in Normandy Park, a suburb south of Seattle. Renowned architect Frank Lloyd Wright designed this residence as part of his Usonian Automatic concept. This vision aimed to provide affordable, integrated housing for the middle class. Construction of the Tracy House began in 1954 and was completed in 1956. Original owners Bill and Elizabeth Tracy were deeply involved, personally making the custom concrete blocks used in its construction. The house features redwood walls, red concrete radiant floors, and bands of windows. These design elements connect the home to its dramatic bluff site overlooking Puget Sound. As one of only three Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes in Washington State, the Tracy House was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995, recognizing its architectural importance and unique design.
