University of Washington Faculty Club
historic place
The University of Washington Faculty Club, located in Seattle, Washington's King County, was completed in 1960. Prominent local architects Paul Hayden Kirk and Victor Steinbrueck designed the building, with landscape design by Garrett Eckbo. This two-story structure showcases post-war Modern design, constructed with concrete, steel, brick, stucco, and glass. Before its construction, the site was occupied by the Hoo-Hoo House, which was built for the 1909 Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition and served as the first Faculty Club until 1959. For nearly six decades, the club functioned as a membership club for faculty, providing dining and reception facilities. The University of Washington Faculty Club was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2016 and designated a Seattle landmark in 2021. It stands as a notable example of mid-century modern architecture in the Pacific Northwest.
