VIRGINIA V

historic place

The VIRGINIA V is a historic steamboat in Seattle, Washington. Launched March 9, 1922, she made her maiden voyage from Seattle to Tacoma on June 11, 1922. As the last operational Puget Sound Mosquito Fleet steamer, the VIRGINIA V represents an era when such ships connected regional islands and ports. She transported passengers, freight, Camp Fire Girls, and World War II workers. Damaged in a 1934 storm, the vessel was rebuilt. Designated a National Register of Historic Places site in 1973 and a National Historic Landmark in 1992, the VIRGINIA V preserves Puget Sound's maritime heritage.
