At a glance
's Hubble Space Telescope is conducting a survey of 260 satellite galaxies around 22 Milky Way-like host galaxies within about 32 million light-years of Earth. As of October 16, 2026, Hubble has observed 111 satellites, including the edge-on intermediate spiral NGC 1827 about 37 million light-years away in Columba imaged with the Advanced Camera for Surveys showing blue star-forming regions and dust lanes. The observing campaign sustains ongoing use of Hubble operations, imaging instruments, and astronomical data workflows. The remaining 149 galaxies, at one Hubble orbit each, are the clear next observations to watch.

Hubble Highlights NGC 1827, Survey Status Unchanged
On October 16, 2026, NASA highlighted Hubble's edge-on image of spiral galaxy NGC 1827, about 37 million light-years away in Columba, taken with the Advanced Camera for Surveys. The release describes the same survey status as before, with no change: 111 of 260 satellite galaxies around 22 Milky Way-like hosts observed, with 149 orbits still needed.
The steady survey work sustains demand for Hubble operations and data analysis. To watch is completion of the remaining 149 single-orbit observations.
